曲则全The imperfect is completed.
枉则直The crooked is straightened.
洼则盈The empty is filled.
弊则新The old is renewed.
少则得With few there is attainment.
多则惑With much there is confusion.
是以圣人抱一为天下式Therefore the sage grasps the one and becomes the model for all.
不自见故明She does not show herself, and therefore is apparent.
不自是故彰She does not affirm herself, and therefore is acknowledged.
不自伐故有功She does not boast and therefore has merit.
不自矜故长She does not strive and is therefore successful.
夫唯不争故天下莫能与之争It is exactly because she does not contend, that nobody can contend with her.
古之所谓曲则全者岂虚言哉How could the ancient saying, “The imperfect is completed” be regarded as empty talk?
诚全而归之Believe in the complete and return to it.
